SBC Member RIDER ALERT Quick Notice

Lopez Island Ride, Tues Sept. 23, 2025 (Ferry leav...
Jeannette Folkertsma

The weather forecast looks great for Tuesday, so let's go ride on Lopez Island. We'll take the ferry that leaves at 10:05 am from Anacortes to Lopez Island on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025. You should be in line with your ticket at 9:45 am. The ferry should get us to Lopez around 11 am. Instead of my usual route to the south end for a picnic lunch, I think we'll ride into the village first for lunch and do my usual route in reverse. If more of you would rather do the picnic lunch at Agate Beach, please let me know and we can certainly change the route. There are not too many places open in the village to eat on a Tuesday, but there is a good deli at the store that has sandwiches/burgers and there is a pizza food truck also. The Islander Restaurant is also a possibility. You can also take a lunch along. Then we'll head out and explore the island as time allows for about 20 miles total. You can also just do your own thing. There will be hills! The return ferry leaves at 4:20 pm. Do check wsdot.wa.gov for any ferry cancellations that morning just in case.

I will send out another alert on Monday with an attached map. Any feedback on a possible route/lunch preferences is appreciated!

I’d like to go but it’s not worth it to me for less than a 30 mile ride. Anyone else for a longer ride with a picnic lunch?

I’ve signed up for the Lopez ride and am going to do about a 30 mile trip. I’ll be packing a lunch and a cold brew for a picnic lunch at Agate beach (a scenic spot near the south end of the island). Anyone like to join me? There should be plenty of time to complete the ride and catch the return ferry with everyone else.

Here’s the route I’m planning to do. An E bike or strong legs are recommended as there are hills. Let me know if you’re interested. It’s a clockwise loop:
